Pastoral Life

The aim of the Pastoral life team is to help people to know love as something to be received and something to give.

The original scheme, started some years ago, was recently revised and updated with changes to personnel and  a name change to indicate our vision that pastoral activity is a way of life.

We have sections for Visiting, Practical Help, The Shelter, Cancer Support, Jubilee Club for the over 60’s Surviving the Break-Up, and Friends . There are occasional courses on important skills such as 'Parenting 'and 'Listening.' Each section has a leader and they meet at least each term with the steering group for sharing, training and prayer. We encourage all church members to be alert to the needs of their friends and neighbours and communicate these to the sections of Pastoral life so that help can be offered.

Visiting

We visit the sick, elderly, housebound, bereaved and hospitalised.

Practical Help

We can supply lifts, do shopping, odd jobs, provide meals and look after children in an emergency.

The Shelter

A room in the Parish Centre where volunteers are available to offer a listening ear, friendly support and a cup of coffee.

Cancer Support

The group, usually about 4, meet the second Tuesday of each month and is open to carers, cancer patients and their families and offers valuable support both by way of fellowship and information about cancer, with a library of tapes, books and leaflets. The aim is to help the whole person and members receive support either by attending the meetings, or from telephone calls from the group leader or by visits in their own home. The group is run by Christians but many who attend do not have a strong faith but all welcome the prayer time and Bible reading times that form a part of the meetings.

Jubilee Club

About 20 -25 folk over 60 meet every Tuesday and enjoy a variety of activities including chair aerobics and keep fit, outings, meals and talks. The current programme includes a talk on 'Old Crowthorne', Flower arranging, an Easter Bonnet competition and a Poetry afternoon.

Surviving the Break-Up

Separation or divorce is painful and this 4 week course is run three times a year to offer advice on coping with the adult emotional experience, the impact of divorce on children, legal aspects and finally practical advice on moving on. Participants learn of the course from extensive publicity and come from all walks of life to meet and share their experiences under the gentle leadership of two facilitators.

Friends

A social group for people who are alone for what ever reason.

The Pastoral life team is always looking for new volunteers and we would ask you to think and pray about whether you could be involved. Remember the larger the team the more evenly the workload is spread
